High performance coatings over concrete flooring provides protection against contamination and wear and adds longevity and aesthetics. Fast cure speed to reduce downtime and improve productivity remains a top priority for flooring industry but fast cure often comes with trade-off in durability, UV resistance, adhesion, working time, and emission compliance. This paper presents new technologies that address the performance gaps in current floor coatings and meet the demand for rapid return to service with low emission and good working time. This paper presents high performance epoxy primers in conjunction with aliphatic polyurea or polycarbamide topcoats to deliver a unique combination of enhanced properties. The epoxy primer presented in this paper include an ultrafast cure waterborne system and a solvent free primer that also serves as a moisture vapor barrier. Key performance attributes and comparison with two-pack polyurethane and typical epoxy systems will also be discussed.
